Welcome to Brighton Sewing Centre, now based at Vale Yard Studios in Portslade, a growing artist cooperative home to over 17 working studios.

We are no longer just a shop.
We are a working studio, teaching space, and creative hub where people come to learn, make, and develop their ideas through textiles.

Who We Are

Brighton Sewing Centre was established in 2010 and originally based in the North Laine area of Brighton. Over the past 15 years, we’ve built a trusted reputation for supplying quality sewing machines, including Janome, Brother, and Bernina.

Today, our work has evolved.

While we still offer carefully selected sewing machines, advice, and servicing, our focus has shifted toward teaching, skill-building, and supporting creative development.

Now based within Vale Yard Studios, we are part of a wider community of artists and makers, a space where creativity is visible, shared, and constantly evolving.

What We Do
Sewing Machine Sales & Support

We continue to offer a curated selection of Janome, Brother, and Bernina machines, with honest advice to help you choose the right one for your needs.
We also provide guidance, troubleshooting, and servicing support to keep your machine running smoothly.

Creative Learning & Courses

Our studio is primarily a teaching space, where we run courses designed to help people build both practical skills and creative confidence.

Our flagship programme is:

Design, Make & Market
A 10-week course delivered through the Brighton Adult Skills Hub, supporting learners to:

Design and create a textile product
Develop practical sewing skills
Understand pricing, value, and selling
Build confidence in sharing and marketing their work

This course is open to a wide range of learners, whether you want to start selling your work or simply deepen your creative practice.

Tuesday – Thursday: Teaching (10:00 – 15:30)
