Come along to this fortnightly class and make a modern sampler quilt with Liz Betts, the author of The Beginner’s Guide to Quilting.
At each session you will make a total of nine blocks, a different patchwork technique will be covered, with optional homework set for students to work on between classes. Liz’s design has ‘floating’ blocks, so the sashing blends in with the blocks, however this design can also be made in more muted fabrics for a traditional feel. The size of the finished quilt is approximately 1 x 1.3m, so it is a good size lap quilt to go on the back of a sofa, however students are free to make it larger by making more blocks at home.
You need to bring with you a rotary cutter, thread, notebook and fabric to each session.
Although suitable for both beginners and intermediate levels, the class is aimed at those who have previously made a quilt so it does not include quilting and binding. Regular one off Sunday courses are run by Liz at Brighton Sewing Centre, so you can bring your quilt top along to one of these if you would like to learn more about these stages of making a quilt.
