Gift ideas day 1 - Crafters
Monday, 17 November 2014
Christmas is coming!
With the festive season hurtling towards us, we thought we would pick out some key items that we think would make excellent presents this Christmas.
Each day, for the next five days, we will be looking at a different area of sewing:
Monday (today) – Crafters
Tuesday – Dressmakers
Wednesday – Quilters
Thursday – Embroiderers
Friday - Children
so, it's Monday and...
Presents for Crafters
Crafters are probably the easiest of the sewing tribes to buy for. Happy to try out different crafts, they are just as happy making a soft toy as they are customizing clothes.
Our picks are…
Presented on a lovely card, this set of 6 fabric covered buttons are from the Norwegian design company Tilda.
2014 has definitely been the year of the pom pom, and this handy maker from Clover makes small pom poms in two different sizes (¾in and 1in in diameter) . The packaging shows a project that uses the pom poms to make a wreath, however we like them just hanging in a window.
£5.50 (although prices vary according to size)
The fabulous 1960s inspired Geo Pop canvas fabric range has just come in, and any of the range would make a great gift for a groovy crafter. Canvas is suitable for lots of different craft techniques, from bag making to covering a lampshade (see below!) to simply stretching over a frame to hang on a wall.
£12 a metre
Make a Bag Kit
Kits make a great present, especially if the recipient is lucky enough to manage to steal some sewing time into their busy festive schedule. This casual tote bag easy to make, so great for a beginner, and is a handy size to use every day.
£12.00, with a choice of 6 fabrics from our designer cotton ranges.
30 Totes and Bags to Sew
This book is crammed full of bag patterns, and spiral bound so easy to have open when stitching. Our favourites from the 30 patterns are the simple tote bag, the knitters work basket and the ziparound correspondence case. Written by Helen Anghard Henley, it comes complete with full size pattern sheets.
Lampshade Making Kits
We first got these in a year ago, and the lampshade making kits have become a firm favourite amongst our crafters. The kits contain everything you need to make a shade - just add fabric.
Prices differ according to size, however a 20cm wide shade kit is £9.99
Father Christmas knows I've been good this year!
We think this is a great machine for a crafter who wants a few more features than a standard sewing machine. It comes with a whopping 400+ stitches, including a font, so ideal if you want to start monogramming projects or stitch your own labels.
£499, if bought before the end of November 2014 (after that it goes back up to rep of £549.00)
